The EP-generation Civic ran from 2001 to 2005 and covered several body styles built on a shared platform: the EP1/EP2 three-door hatchback, the ES1/ES2 four-door saloon, and - for UK enthusiasts - the EP3 Civic Type R. The EP3 was significant as Honda's first Type R manufactured outside Japan, built at the Swindon plant alongside the standard hatch.

European-spec EP3s used the K20A2 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine, producing 197 bhp at 7,400 rpm and 145 lb-ft at 5,900 rpm, paired with a close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox. UK and other EDM cars ran an open differential rather than the helical limited-slip diff fitted to JDM-spec cars, which is a relevant distinction when planning a handling upgrade path, LSD retrofits are a common addition precisely because the factory EU setup went without one. A 2004 facelift brought a lighter clutch and flywheel along with a revised front bumper and projector headlights, but the core specification held steady across the production run.

Because EP1, EP2, ES1, ES2 and EP3 share chassis and suspension mounting points, much of the range here, Powerflex bushes, Hardrace arms, roll centre adjusters, fits across the whole EP family rather than being Type R-specific, and product titles are marked accordingly. Coilover options (BC Racing BR/ER/RM series, MeisterR GT1/ZetaSport/Clubrace, HSD MonoPro) are also shared fitments across EM2/ES1/ES2/EP1/EP2/EP3.

A typical upgrade path on the EP3 starts with suspension bushing (Powerflex front and rear arm bushes are the highest-volume line here) before moving to coilovers for those setting the car up for track use, alongside anti-roll bar bushing and roll centre correction for cars running lowered ride heights. Engine mounts are a common companion purchase where the standard rubber items have degraded, particularly on cars used hard.
