Powerflex Polyurethane Bushes - For The Track and The Road

Powerflex is the product name for EPTG’s (European Polyurethane Technologies Group) range of replacement bushes. Proudly developed, designed and manufactured in Great Britain, Powerflex have been the forefront of polyurethane use in the automotive industry for over twenty years.

Their frankly massive range of products & parts is astonishing and additionally, they manufacture custom parts for race teams on top of their replacement and OEM upgrades. Understandable then why Powerflex are considered one of, if not the original manufacturer of performance bushes.

What are bushes and why do I need them?

Suspension bushes, whatever material they’re made from, are fitted to vehicles at any point where a moving suspension component is joined to the chassis.

Their purpose is to reduce wear on rigid components, reduce vibrations through the cars steering rack and reduce road noise in the process. Traditionally, bushes are manufactured from rubber and are used in production cars to this day. Rubber is used for two main reasons: 1. Its an efficient shock absorber, dampening vibration and noise efficiently. 2. Rubber bushes are cheap to manufacture.

Why don’t car manufacturers use polyurethane bushes?

If you have been considering upgrading your OEM rubber bushes to polyurethane, you may have noticed the difference in price. Generally speaking, polyurethane is more difficult to process than rubber, the manufacturing time is slower and the raw material is much more expensive.

You can buy around 10 rubber bushes for every poly bush, so if a major car manufacturer commissions the production of 6 million rubber bushes per year, their bush-budget has just increased significantly. Providing OEM factory fitted bushes last the duration of a new cars warranty, the manufacturer is free and clear. Which is why poly bushes are mainly used by motoring enthusiasts or motorsport specialists.

What makes Powerflex bushes special?

Powerflex use their own specially formulated polyurethane compound, making their poly bushes stand out from the rest. At every joint between a suspension component and the chassis will likely be a perished and ill fitting rubber bush. Powerflex bushes are manufactured on a CNC machine to ensure they fit your car perfectly.

Minimising play in the joint and in turn, reducing unwanted flex in the suspension, unwanted vibration and road noise. If you do choose to upgrade from rubber bushes to poly - you will not believe the difference in all of the above, but in handling and suspension performance also.
