How an M3 gets modified depends heavily on which generation you're starting from. The naturally aspirated era - E30, E36, E46 and E9X - covers four decades of four-cylinder, straight-six and V8 engines, and tends to see the heaviest suspension and chassis interest, both to sharpen handling and, on the older cars, to address age and wear. The switch to turbocharging with the F80 changed that balance: exhaust and cooling parts see much stronger demand on the F80 and G80 than on any naturally aspirated M3, as owners look to manage and unlock the power turbocharging adds.

The E30 and E36 are the lightest and mechanically simplest cars in the range, and modifications there tend to focus on restoring or exceeding factory sharpness on ageing platforms. The E46 sits at something of a peak for naturally aspirated demand, seeing stronger exhaust and engine interest than the E30, E36 or E9X. The current G80, meanwhile, is the first M3 available with xDrive all-wheel drive and a Touring body style, and its aftermarket is still developing as more cars reach modification age.

Each M3 generation has its own quirks when it comes to fitment, so we've split our range by chassis code - E30, E36, E46, E9X, F80 and G80 - to make sure you're looking at parts confirmed to fit your car.
